Marriott Isla Verde Beach Resort formally debuted in August 2026 after a roughly $38 million overhaul in Puerto Rico. The former Courtyard property now operates under the flagship Marriott Hotels brand, aligning its beach setting and resort facilities with a full-service offer.
What changed in the 260 rooms and suites
The project modernized every guest room and suite across the 23-year-old property. Available categories range from standard rooms to oceanfront accommodation, junior suites and one-bedroom suites.
Each room has a private balcony. The renovation also covered the lobby and shared social areas, while the hotel updated its dining concepts, service areas and operational infrastructure.
Puerto Rican architects, designers, contractors, artists and suppliers took part in the work. Their involvement supported the hotel’s effort to move into a higher category while retaining a connection to its island setting.
Which resort facilities are available
The beachfront property combines dining, swimming, fitness, gaming and direct access to the sand in one complex. Its current amenity list includes six restaurants, a bar, an outdoor pool, a whirlpool and a fitness center.
Casino del Sol remains at the hotel, preserving the combination of beach access, gaming and nightlife associated with the property. The broader food and beverage program was also revised during the renovation.
Where Marriott Isla Verde fits in San Juan’s hotel market
The rebrand allows travellers to compare the property more directly with Isla Verde’s established large beachfront resorts. Nearby competitors include the 388-room Fairmont El San Juan Hotel, which has four pools, and The Royal Sonesta San Juan, with nearly 400 rooms.
The opening also broadens Marriott’s portfolio in Puerto Rico. The 56-room Alma San Juan in Old San Juan joined the company’s Autograph Collection in July 2026, while La Concha in Condado had previously moved into the same collection.
This property fills a different role within that portfolio: a conventional beach resort connected to Marriott Bonvoy rather than a smaller independently styled hotel operating under a collection brand.
Why the Isla Verde location matters
The resort sits directly on Isla Verde Beach, close to San Juan’s main airport and within reach of other parts of the capital. That location can reduce transfer time at the beginning and end of a short Puerto Rico trip.
Isla Verde combines a long urban beach with restaurants, nightlife and several major hotels in one neighborhood. Condado and Old San Juan are also close enough for travellers who want to divide their time between the beach and the capital’s other districts.
What travellers should check before booking
Travellers should compare room category, view and the final price before choosing a stay. An early-September rate check found standard rooms starting in roughly the mid-$200s per night before taxes and certain charges, although prices vary by date and accommodation type.
Oceanfront rooms cost more, while suites sit at a substantially higher price point. Room descriptions also distinguish between ocean, pool and Isla Verde Beach views, making the selected category important for guests booking primarily for the waterfront setting.
The renovated resort is most relevant to travellers seeking direct beach access, proximity to the airport or Marriott Bonvoy participation. Comparing several dates and the total price after taxes and charges will give a clearer picture than relying on the starting rate alone.
