Nicko Cruises has added a Vasco da Gama surcharge of €10 per person per night to every segment of the 2026-27 world cruise because fuel prices remain elevated. The 193-day voyage departs Hamburg on November 3, 2026, and returns there on May 5, 2027.
Vasco da Gama surcharge brings the full-cruise bill to €1,930
A guest booked for the entire itinerary will pay an additional €1,930. For shorter bookings, the total will depend on the segment length and the number of people travelling.
The fee applies per person rather than per cabin. Nicko Cruises says each affected guest will receive a revised invoice or booking confirmation showing the added amount.
Fuel prices remain above both March and planning levels
Nicko says current fuel prices exceed both pre-March levels and the prices used when it created the cruise programme. The company also says oil prices rose again after its initial calculations.
In its message to guests, Nicko said it had waited for tensions in the Middle East to ease before communicating the charge at the beginning of April. The underlying price level remained high.
The cruise line says it continues to monitor price movements with its partners and intends to pass on only the costs it considers necessary.
Revised invoices will show what each traveller owes
Guests should use their updated invoice or confirmation to check the additional amount before departure. The figure should reflect both the number of travellers and the nights included in the booking.
Passengers joining only one part of the voyage should check the charge against that segment, not the full 193-day itinerary. Anyone who finds a mismatch should ask Nicko Cruises or their booking provider to review it before sailing.
The ship will visit destinations around the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian oceans before completing its round trip to Hamburg.
