Galveston cruises will add Margaritaville at Sea in October 2027, with weekly Friday departures from Cruise Terminal 28. The newcomer will become the Texas port’s seventh cruise line, widening choices for trips to the Caribbean and Central America.
Agreement behind Galveston cruises could run past its first year
The operating deal runs for one year and includes options to renew it for two additional five-year terms. The Galveston Wharves Board of Trustees voted unanimously on Aug. 25 to accept the agreement.
Margaritaville at Sea has not previously operated from Galveston. Chief executive Christopher Ivy described the deal as another step in the cruise line’s expansion and said the company views the city as a growing departure point.
Texas and Central U.S. travelers are the main audience
The port and cruise line are targeting guests who can reach Galveston from Texas and the Central United States. Port director and chief executive Rodger Rees said the surrounding drive market includes 46 million people.
A drive market is the area from which travelers can reasonably reach a departure port by road. For some passengers, starting a cruise in Galveston can remove the need to fly to another embarkation city.
The Friday schedule also fills a previously open day in the port’s cruise calendar. Rees said the service will combine new ports of call with established destinations.
September’s reveal will provide the missing trip details
A special event at the port in September will provide the two main details travelers still need:
- The ship that will be based in Galveston
- The itineraries it will operate
Travelers interested in the new service should watch that announcement before comparing routes or ship amenities. No fares, booking launch date or exact date for the September event have been announced.
