Carnival Panorama itinerary drops two Mexico ports as Hurricane Simon shifts cruise

The Carnival Panorama itinerary has changed on its Oct. 10 sailing because Hurricane Simon is affecting Mexico’s Pacific coast. The Carnival Cruise Line ship left Long Beach on an eight-night roundtrip cruise and has canceled two port calls while delaying a third.

Carnival Panorama itinerary: revised port sequence

The new plan removes Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlán, moves Cabo San Lucas to Oct. 14 and adds an Ensenada visit on Oct. 17.

Ship-tracking data showed the vessel anchored off Cabo San Lucas after it successfully returned on Wednesday. Carnival has scheduled the replacement call at Ensenada for Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Unsafe water-shuttle conditions delayed Cabo call

Carnival abandoned its earlier attempt to visit Cabo San Lucas because the weather made water-shuttle operations unsafe.

Captain Salvatore Mangraviti informed guests of the revised plan in a letter issued on Oct. 13. Ships visiting ports without a suitable berth may anchor offshore and use smaller boats to carry passengers ashore. Rough conditions can prevent those boats from operating safely.

Mangraviti said the cruise line would continue monitoring the weather, with the safety of passengers and crew taking priority as conditions changed.

Third hurricane disrupts West Coast operations

Simon is the third named hurricane to affect the ship’s operations since late September.

Hurricane Polo initially disrupted the vessel’s schedule, while Hurricane Rachel also prompted itinerary changes. The latest storm has again required Carnival to revise a Mexican Riviera voyage from Long Beach.

What passengers need to check

Guests should review their onboard accounts, updated tour arrangements and the latest ship schedule before making plans for the remaining port call.

  • Shore excursions bought through Carnival for Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlán will be refunded to passengers’ onboard accounts.
  • Carnival has adjusted booked Cabo San Lucas tours to match the rescheduled visit.
  • The Ensenada call remains scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17, but passengers should follow onboard announcements while the cruise line monitors conditions.
