Corazul Cruceros has moved the Buenavista cruise launch closer by signing a bareboat charter ahead of planned sailings in Brazil. The vessel is due to leave Hong Kong on September 20 and may carry its first guests as early as October 23, 2026.
Drydock work will prepare the ship for Brazil
The ship is expected to enter drydock on Saturday, when Corazul teams will board and begin adapting it for the Brazilian market.
The 1995-built vessel is currently anchored off Hong Kong. Astro Ocean Cruises last operated it as the Piano Land, and Corazul Chief Operating Officer Cammile Appeldorn said its interiors remain strongly oriented towards the Chinese market.
Crews will start removing or changing those elements during the shipyard stay. Work will continue while the vessel travels to South America, reducing the time it needs to remain in port before entering service.
Where will the Buenavista cruise sail?
The ship will offer three- to seven-night itineraries departing from Santos and Rio de Janeiro.
Before those sailings begin, the vessel will make a 30-day repositioning voyage from Hong Kong to Santos, including a technical call in Mauritius. Such calls allow a ship to handle operational needs without treating the stop as a regular passenger destination.
Corazul’s official programme calls for an early-November start in South America. However, the expected late-October arrival has created the possibility of an earlier debut.
The provisional first departure is expected to be a shakedown cruise. This type of sailing gives an operator and crew an opportunity to test onboard systems and service before the regular programme settles into operation.
The charter leaves ship management with BSM
The bareboat agreement gives Corazul use of the vessel while BSM works with the company as ship manager.
Under a bareboat charter, an operator generally takes control of a ship without the owner supplying the crew or day-to-day operating service. Corazul signed the contract with the vessel’s current owners after the process took longer than initially expected.
Appeldorn said the main contractual preparations are now complete. That allows the company’s teams to shift their attention to the shipyard programme, onboard changes and the journey to Brazil.
Entertainment and dining will shape the onboard product
Corazul plans to distinguish the new operation through its service concept, with particular attention to entertainment, food and beverages.
Appeldorn said the company has spent considerable time developing those plans before gaining access to the vessel. The drydock period and repositioning journey will provide the first opportunity to put that work into practice onboard.
An inaugural celebration and traditional christening ceremony are also planned. Corazul has not yet announced the arrangements for those events.
